Getting our ‘Bounce’ On

Bounce is the latest sports craze to hit the UAE and following a successful opening in the Al Quoz area of Dubai. This exhilarating free-jumping concept has moved down the E11 to Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall.

Boasting more than just a trampoline park. Bounce offers something for the entire family and aside from the fun aspect of bouncing around, the health benefits are also pretty awesome. Trampolining is often promoted as one of the most effective forms of exercise, with a recent study by NASA indicating that: “rebound exercise is the most efficient, effective form of exercise yet devised by man.” They should know, they send people to space after all and are well-researched in the limitations that the human body can endure.

Located toward the backside of the malls first level. Bounce is a humongous project and the space has been fully utilised with zip-lines, tightropes, slides, free climbing walls and dozens of vibrantly coloured trampolines.

It’s a busy place, so expect to queue for entry or book online here for a fuss-free experience. The process involved signing a health and safety waiver and purchasing gripper socks (which are re-usable and allow for a discounted entry price on return visits). Once kitted up, leave all belongings in one of the many lockers (10 AED per hour) and you’re good to go. The entrance free allows access to all of the equipment at Bounce for the period of one hour.

The mezzanine level of Bounce is home to a a slack-rope specifically for younger children that is elevated a couple of feet off the heavily padded floor. Just enough to encourage them to concentrate on balance without fearing the fall. Adjacent is a reasonably priced cafe, home to coffees, cakes and light snacks. Providing the perfect hangout out for those not inclined to bounce.

To enter the trampoline area guests have two options. Take the stairs or a steep metal slide – I bet you can guess which option we settled for…

Bounce is unlike anything else promoting fitness in the UAE. This is not a gym in the standard sense, although it does have the feel of a boxing arena, partly due to the sheer amount of padding. In fact, Bounce can only really be described as a huge indoor playground. One that provides an exhilarating feeling of freedom, where there is no limit to where you can bounce.

Health and safety is paramount and the team of competent staff are always on hand to ensure that safety is the primary objective. The rules are simple. Only one trampoline per person (no sharing) and if you are headed for the ropes or bags, it’s one at a time. Staff are easily recognisable by their pink and black striped uniforms and can generally be found bouncing the highest or performing a number of heart-racing tricks. These guys are masters of the trampoline and will inspire and encourage guests to try something outside of their usual comfort zone.

Despite the main demographic being children, we could see a number of like minded adults also getting their bounce on and firmly enjoying this new free-jumping revolution. Maybe it’s something about the elasticity of the trampoline or the feeling of limitless bounding that makes participants at Bounce revert back to an almost childlike state of fearless adventure.

Unfortunately children under the age of three are not permitted to use the trampolines but parents with little ones should head downstairs, where there are a number of foam platforms that are free to use and act like a small soft play area.

With trampolines covering both the floors and the walls. Basketball nets, two dodgeball courts and an array of other activities are available to keep you occupied during your hour long bouncing session.

Our favourites were the the two giant airbags (holding 200 cubic meters of air) and are perfect for absorbing all of your tumbles and flips. The 10 meter long fast track trampoline and the 5.5m infinity wall are perfect for more advanced gymnasts, aspiring wall runners and parkour fanatics. Some items do have height restrictions but for the smallest of visitors the free-jumping is their best bet.

Aside from immense fun, the health benefits are reason enough to give Bounce a go. It has been found that 10 minutes bouncing on a trampoline is a better cardiovascular workout than 33 minutes of running. Bouncing is also said to help rid the body of toxins and waste, increase balance and coordination, improve posture and muscle toning. All within a low impact workout that is also a great stress reliever.

The science behind it is simple. Bouncing not only releases endorphins bur the affect of the G-force on your body helps to make cells stronger. Bounce guarantees you to work up a sweat (if not you’re nor jumping high enough) and we are so excited to have the opportunity to exercise in a safe and fun environment that the whole family can enjoy.

With Bounce having only just opened its doors, there’s a lot of exciting stuff planned for the future. Look out for fitness classes, dodgeball tournaments, ladies only sessions and childrens birthday parties. All of which are available in Dubai and will be coming to the Abu Dhabi outlet very soon.

With Bounce looking to open new branches in both Al Ain and Sharjah. There really is only one place to take the kids when they are bouncing off the walls and that is Bounce.

General access to Bounce costs 80 AED for adults and 70 AED for children over the age of three, inclusive of grip socks.
