After a brief stint over at Zayed Sports City, the capitals favourite food festival Taste Of Abu Dhabi returns to the Du Arena on Yas Island for a weekend full of gastronomic delights. We’re even more excited this year with Out & About UAE being an official media partner of the event (whoop, whoop!)
From Thursday the 9th – Saturday 11th November Yas Island will become a foodie hub full of culinary adventures for the entire family. In dedication to all things food visiors to the 4th edition of Taste of Abu Dhabi can expect cookery workshops, appearances from celbrity chefs and the oppurtunity to try some of the food from some of the capitals favourite restaurants including Tamba, BU, Sho Cho and Leopolds of London and newcomers to the Abu Dhabi dining scene like Loca, Toro Toro, Cafe Milano, The Grill and Sushina.
Taste is a worldwide brand, with food festivals held in a number of cities throughout the world and we’ve enjoyed countless iterations of the festival over the years including Taste Of London and Taste of Christmas. The concept is simple, to give visitors the chance to sample dishes from some of the best restaurants in the city they live.
2017 promises to be bigger and better than previous years, with appearances from celebrity chefs – Richard Sandoval (Toro, Toro), South African culinary radio personality Jenny Morris, TV Chef and ‘spice prince’ Reza Mahammad, Masterchef UK winner Shelina Permalloo, and Taste of Abu Dhabi favourite Sanjeev Kapoor (who has a number of UAE restaurants) will all be making an appearance and their scheudles for the festival can be found here:
Taste of Abu Dhabi has become renowned for interactivity and at the Etihad Chef’s Theatre, you’ll find live demonstrations, culinary challenges, tutorials and Q & A sessions to gain greater insight into the world of cookery. The Etihad Chef’s Theatre will also play home to ‘Taste the World with Etihad Airways’ bringing acclaimed global chefs to Abu Dhabi to cook some of their signature dishe. Look out for chefs from the UK, Spain, Hong Kong, Italy and Australia.
We headed out to Yas Island on Thursday evening to experience the first day of the festival (and to sample some of the tasty treats on offer).
Visit the Italian pavilion for a display of the very best Italian cuisine from a team of Michelin Star-winning chefs (we’ve also been promised pizza acrobatics). You’ll find us at the masterclasses on burrata making (YES) gelato and espresso – in fact, we may never leave this pavilion! Or you can join the Al Ain Dairy & IKEA Cookery Challenge and cook along with the celebrity chefs for a chance to win prizes.
The festival is about more than just food and on Thursday night visitors to Taste can enjoy music from former Spandau Ballet member Tony Hadley. There will also be live performances across all three days from the Down Home, DJ Krish, Maplejacks and Taste favourites 4TheMusic.
Keeping things family friendly, little guests can enjoy the fun and frolics of the Les Fanfans kids zone, home to arts and crafts, face painting, soft play, a bouncy castle, cupcake decorating and pizza making – some oh which will incur additional charges.
Having indulged in the food, why not enjoy some retail therapy in the marketplace and start on your festive shopping. With plenty of stalls selling everything from kitchenware to food, you’ll find everyone from Build A Bear to London Dairy, The Entertainer, Zomato and Amarino present.
As official media partners of Taste Of Abu Dhabi 2017, we look forward to seeing you all down at the Du Arena this weekend. Grab your tickets here and enjoy.
